Heartland 7s - National Clubside Qualifier

Kansas City Blues Elite topped Glendale Raptors, 42-7, in the championship match at the Heartland 7s, a national clubside qualifying tournament. The seven-a-side competition, held at Kauffman-Legacy Park in KC, was the middle event in the three-tournament qualifying system that will culminate Saturday, July 25th, at the  Joseph E. Cook Park Memorial Rugby Grounds in Denver, Colorado.

Blues Elite defeated Denver Barbarians 31-5 in pool play, and Omaha G.O.A.T.S. in semifinal action before their title victory, while Glendale were three better than Denver at 17-14 in their semi.

Kansas City, having gotten runners-up points in the initial round of 7s competition at Denver 7s on June 27 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, holds first place just now followed closely by the Barbarians who, in turn, must feel predatory Raptor breath on their neck’s nape.

Therefore the outcome of 7s competition at the end of this month at “The Cooker” will be the determinant as to which two clubs advance to the national tourney at James W. Cownie Rugby Complex in Des Moines, Iowa, at the 2015 USA Rugby Emirates Airline Club 7s National Championships on Aug. 8-9.
