Rocky Mountain Men's D-2: Provo up Top, Glendale movin'

MD-2: Provo Steelers roll into 1st; Glendale Raptors to 3rd

With its bonus-point win over Park City Haggis (27-17) on the road last weekend, Provo Steelers have retaken the topspot in the contentious Rocky Mountain league. Openside flanker, Adney Uasilla, led the Men of Steel to victory over their in-state rivals and was cited as Man of the Match for his vigorous industry. Provo are now one table point ahead of second-placed Boulder Rugby on the chart.

Glendale Raptors have shot up the standings with 15 points from their last three matches and now sit level with the Grand Burns Supper on 27 points. Glendale went in front of Denver Barbarians 7-0 at minute 15 on a try by inside center, John Ryberg, and its completion struck by flyhalf Derek Smith. Barbarians drew level with a grounding by fullback PT Smith and the conversion from #10 legacy, Devin Martling: 7-for the house in the 33rd minute. Hard-charging front row, Giorgi Tsverava, formidable in the loose for predators.

Homeboys went to work then, scoring thrice more before the halftime signal of referee Chris Huff on trys by: blindside break, James Fuller; right wing, Chris Neale; and left wing, Tony Gobem – all bunch of fives made seven through the faultless efforts of placekicker Smith. 28-7 at the break and Raptors had the bonus point.

A half dozen touch downs for Glendale in the second stanza on scores by: fullback Greg Mohrman, Gobem again, lock Marty Chenery, wing Chris Neale, tighthead Colby Townsend, and hooker Marshall Godfrey, with Smith adding all but one set of extras for a 68-7 result at Huff’s last blast.

Scoring

Glendale – Try: Ryberg, Fuller, Neale (2), Gobem (2), Mohrman, Chenery, Townsend, Godfrey; Con: Smith (9);
