MD-2: Steelers v Harlequins

Provo Steelers v Denver Harlequins at Grand Junction, Colorado – from RS Etuate Lavulavu

Provo Steelers have claimed first place on the table with five-point victory over Denver Harlequins on Saturday. The match was played at Dixson Park Rugby Grounds in Grand Junction, which is located close on halfway between the two rugby cities (284 v 244 miles). Seasonably warm with scattered clouds and a slippery pitch at kickoff as Steelers captain, Viliam Vimahi, led the XV onto the field for the frontrunners final fixture of the season. A bonus point win would give the Men of Steel this competition cycle’s division title and first-seed in the playoff rounds upcoming later In the month.

Steelers managed to control the match in the first forty and they obtained their fourth try, and thus the bonus-point, by halftime behind the stellar efforts of standoff and eventual Man of the Match, Russell Uasilaa, whose crafty decision-making, fluid distribution and poignant, pulsing running style had Steelers ahead 22-6 at that midpoint.  Second stanza saw lock forward Imua Fonohema, and the backrow triumvirate of Adney Uasilaa, Pio Stowers and Apenisa Malani as major contributors to the Utahns victory though, at times, the Steelers were down to 14 and 13 players due cards issues.

“The thing that impressed me the most was our overall effort,” reports Steelers frontman, Etuate Lavulavu, “I am proud of the boys as they did a heck of a job out there today as we try to instill a new discipline and classier Steelers show both on and off the field moving forward.”

Steelers went on to record a 44-20 result at field magistrate Chis Brewer’s final whistle.
