USA men's XV: 4 Raptors to star(t) in Brasil

Brasil Tupis v USA Eagles

The Eagles XV continue their quest for their second successive Americas  Rugby Championship (ARC) trophy at Estádio Martins Pereira in the city of São José dos Campos today. USA men’s national team seeks to run its 2018 ARC record to 4-0-0 with victory in the South American nation. Brasil are 1-3-0 after the Tupis defeat to Canada, 5-45, in Langford last weekend.

Eagles head coach Gary Gold has expanded the potential pool for RWC 2019 with the addition of a pair of newcomers, flanker Psalm Wooching and center Paul Lasike, both try-scorers in their Test debut. Lasike is a bold crashing center who just might be what the rugby doctor ordered for next year’s global competition, while Wooching ranges the field in much the same way as the All Blacks Aardie Savea: penetrating with power.

Captain Nate Augspurger led the charge against Chile last week, touching down shortly after kickoff in the lopsided win v Los Teros at Fullerton. Once again the Eagles were able to increase a close midpoint margin, 10-3, substantially in the second stanza for the 45-13 win.

Augspurger shifts to the wing this weekend as it’s a flight of Raptors from nine, ten and twelve with Shaun Davies getting the nod at scrumhalf-to-Will Magie at standoff, and then Bryce Campbell at inside center. Glendale’s Ben Landry starts in the engine room.

Wooching and Lasike are on the pitch for the first boot at blindside and outside center respectively as Coach (Good as) Gold mixes up things with fine precision through his pool of availables in preparation for the big dance next year.

Match can be viewed live post-12:30pm MST this afternoon on
