USA v Canada: Round 2 of Americas Rugby Championship

Eagles made it two-from-two wins in Western Hemisphere's premier national tourney at Sacramento on Saturday by defeating their old enemy handily at Papa Murphy's Park in the California capital. a brace of first forty groundings, the first by Minnesota native, scrumhalf Nate Augsburger followed by blindside flanker Hanco Gemishuys' touch down had Eagles ahead 14-0 midway in the period after successful conversions by Glendale Raptors standoff Will Magie. Eagles were blanking their northern neighbors by stifling the True North's movements comprehensively when Canada threatened inside the US 22.

Canada dotted near time in the half  through the efforts of their own number 9, Phil Mack and formidable flyer, DTH van der Merve. The pair displayed swift, savvy and succinct ball transference to free fullback Pat Parfrey for his corner closing and wing Brock Staller's majestic conversion from near touch, and the lads broke for hydration and instruction with tallies of 14 and 7 in favor of the host XV.

As happened last weekend in the  Argentina victory, head coach Gary Gold's relief corps featured prominently in the win with Glendale's sizable lock Ben Landry applying considerable power in the combustion station pre-50 minutes and Raptors halfback Shaun Davies adding his zippy delivery to the backline. Wing Ryan Matyas dotted a brace of trys and Magie's replacement, Will Hooley, notched a penalty kick for a final record of 29-10 at referee Francisco Gonzalez' last blast.
