Major League Rugby Roundup

Raptors Rule MLR Roost: USA Eagles 20% Glendale

Glendale Raptors sit alone atop the professional table after third round road victory over Utah Warriors, 36-29, at Rio Tinto Stadium in the Beehive State. The league leaders ran out to a 10-nil lead before Utah was able to draw level at 10s the house. The XVs traded converted trys to draw at 17s, then Glendale went ahead, 24-17. An unconverted score by Warriors made it 24-22, then Utah claimed their first advantage at 29-24 in the 68th minute.

Glendale regained honors, 31-24 with a goal, and Utah responded to make the scoreline 31-29. An unconverted goal by Raptors made tallies of 36 and 29 to the travelers, the record at the referee’s final whistle.

Glendale host second-placed San Diego Legion this Sunday evening down the Kettle at Infinity. San Diego are the only club with more Eagles on the 30-man USA squad, seven, than Raptors’ six. Glendale have the crucial Eagles halfback combination of Shaun Davies at scrumhalf and Will Magie at flyhalf; that fluid transition pairing has Glendale in the ordering seat at the Major League table
