MLR: Raptors v SabreCats

The Raptors starting XV for tonight’s Major League Rugby match down the Kettle at Infinity will have a decidedly different complexion than the starting side of recent weeks. For five of the top Raptors will be lacing up their boots for USA Eagles, America’s international representative team, against Russia tomorrow night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Shaun Davies (#9), John Quill (#6), and Bryce Campbell (#13) are on the pitch for 6pm kickoff at Dick’s, while two more, Ben Landry (#4) and  Will Magie (#10) made the Eagles 23-player gameday roster as replacements and are thus unavailable for this evening’s derby v Houston SabreCats in Glendale.

Raptors seek their sixth consecutive win without a loss in the inaugural season of the professional league. The aerial predators are currently placed second on the MLR table with a match in hand league-leading Seattle SeaWolves, whom Raptors trail by a single match point. Seattle are home at the StarFire in Tukwila tonight v Austin Elite, which could very well result in a bonus point win for the ‘Wolves; Glendale must now keep pace and will finish their season, presumably, without the services of their boys on Summer Test duty, which extends through the end of the league competition cycle June 23. Eagles fixtures are next Saturday, June 16, against Scotland in Houston and then up in the True North v Canada on the 23rd for the Test in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Seattle, by the way, will be without their halfback combination, Phil Mack and Brock Staller, when they host Austin Elite tonight as that pair will be starting for Canada v Scotland tomorrow in Edmonton.
