Women's Division 1 - Black Ice v Utah Vipers

     v

Back Ice and Utah Vipers touched down 17 trys between them in a high-scoring match Saturday at Jacobs Park, Denver. On about as fine a RugbyDay as it gets, Utah jumped out to a 26-nil lead by the 15th minute on groundings by: lock, Ali Delacerna in the 2nd minute (conversion by openside flanker, Shannon Wooley); backrow lock, Vai Manuo (Woolley converted) by the 4th minute; wing, Apaau Mailau at '9; and the Vipers bonus point by lock, Brittany Dunn (conversion by Woolley).

Black Ice responded with ball cycled to flyhalf, Audrey Falconi, from breakdown at the Utah 22. The crafty 10 had a looksee at a large space behind the ruck and popped a sweet offer over the top that ran into goal followed closely by the crafty standoff who touched down to open the Ice account and 26-5 by the 23rd minute.

Vipers were working multiple phases well, making the gainline or better at each contact, which provided much go-forward ball, while hosts were having issues countering their opponents rush defense and it was ladies to lockers for hydration and inspiration at the half with tallies of 5 and 36 in the foavor of the guests at the referee's midpoint toot.

Home XV came out of the sheds at half explosively and poured into Utah teritory, working the pill forward from pick-and-goes and short cutters in the near channels before Vipers tunred ball over and commenced movement that resulted in number 2, Eta Mailau, touching down, followed by a try from flyhalf Tama Tavita; with Tavita's score converted by scrumhalf, Ash Chambers, 48-5, for visitors early in the second stanza.

Travellers added a dozen more on a brace of dots by fullback, Dallas McKee, one converted by Chambers, before Black Ice got its second on a grounding by fullback, Kacy Lorber, converted by outside center, Chelsea Martin: 60-12 right past the hour mark.

Right back for the Black and halfback Ria Joseph crossed and dotted for Martin's plus two: 60-19 at '61.

Manuo and McKee both grounded, one converted by Woolley, making the significant figures 72 and 19 at the 72nd minute.

Black Ice got their bonus point try when inside center, Blaine Martin, hard-charging, deliberate-defending all day long, scooped ball from the base of the breakdown and made fast tracks to goal for touch down and Martin's additional deuce for a scoreline of 72-26 at '74.

Utah would have the final shout on a grounding by outside center, Yesenia Camacho, for the record of 77-26 at the ref's last blast.
