Women's Premier League Rugby Championship: San Diego v Glendale


Glendale Merlins placed second in the nation after defeat by San Diego Surfers, 28-34, on the campus of Life University in Marietta, Georgia. The championship saw lead changes at: minute 17, 11-7 for Glendale on a try by Merlins blindside, Amandine Chatelier;  minute 22, 12-11 on a grounding by the Surfers openside flanker, Sam Pankey (converted by inside center Megan Foster for 14-11 scoreline); then once more at time in the half on backrow lock, Jo Kitlinski’s try  for a 23-21 Glendale advantage made 25-21 by flyhalf Hannah Stolba’s plus two; Glendale could not hold that margin and a Pankey grounding converted by Foster at the start of the second stanza brought tallies to 28 and 25 for San Diego; Glendale drew level on a penalty goal by Stolba and 28 for the world by the 55th minute of action; a brace of penalties struck by Foster at ’60 and ’65 made for the result of 34-28 at end of day.
