2019 Major League Rugby
North America’s professional rugby competition kicks its second season Saturday
with Canadian franchise, Toronto Arrows, taking on NOLA Gold in Louisiana and
Austin Elite hosting Houston SabreCats in the Texan capital. By all accounts 2018
was a grand inauguration and the next six months sees the competition expanding
by a brace of clubs: the aforementioned Toronto, which makes the league international;
and Rugby United New York.
Glendale Raptors placed second to Seattle Seawolves in the championship
match, losing by less than a try. USA Eagles John Quill has gone east to play
for NY United, but Raptors signed Men’s Eagles Hanco Germishuys; likely a push
if not the nod to Germishuys. And Raptors also rostered Lindenwood
University-Denver Barbarians product, Malon Al-Jiboori, fleet as hurricane winds, who’ll be running with
the likes of Eagles Bryce Campbell and Will Magie, as well as Ata Malifa, and
they’ll all receive the impeccable service of current Eagle and former BYU
standout, Shaun Davies.
Glendale opens their campaign this Sunday in redress of the 2018
Championship outcome, one should think. One should further consider that to a
man, the Raptors are keen as rapiers and hard as Toledo Steel for it. It’ll be
the blockbuster of MLR Opening Weekend, 2019, rest assured. I’m goin’, you goin’?
