Opening Weekend: Angels v Jesuit, Merlins v SFGG

2019 Rocky Mountain Rugby

opens with a big, old bang Friday night when Denver East High Angels, reigning Rugby Colorado Champions, host Regis Jesuit Raiders at Heaven, the Angels homegrounds located on campus at the corner of 16th Avenue  and the City Park Esplanade. In what could very well be a precursor to the State Championships at season’s end, Angels and Jesuit will go for 60 minutes of referee Chris Huff’s timepiece to set the early standard in the league. Longtime Denver head coach, Bill Baer, has his charges primed and ready for the contest, while one may rest assured his opposite number, longtime admin and instructor in Jesuit Rugby programs and current Raiders head coach, Anthony Mattacchione, will have his boys similarly prepared: eagerly determined and smartly deliberate. 6pm the kickoff and it’s forecast to be chilly so one would do well to consider that when layering up for the show.

Pacific Rugby Premiership: Men’s Division-1, Pacific Rugby Premiership

Glendale Merlins host San Francisco Golden Gate on the StoveTop at Infinity, 1pm on Saturday… each are 0-3-0; a common opponent, Life West Gladiators, beat SFGG by 28 on Treasure Island at the end of January and Glendale by 12 last week in Vallejo. This will be a rock n’ rolla’ of the highest order as the XVs ardently seek joy this RugbyDay.

Major League Rugby: Utah Warriors v Glendale Raptors

Major League Rugby: Utah Warriors (4) v (7) Glendale Raptors at Zions Bank Stadium, Herriman, 7pm Saturday: this will be Warriors initial home match. This will be the Raptors fourth road match running; having dropped its first two, Glendale got the win last week, +11 at Austin, and look to continue in that manner on the Western Slope; Utah topped Austin Elite by eight in Texas first week in January; big battle in the front row; boom-boom-boom-BOOM!
