World 7s Rugby Series: USA working the pill well

World 7s Series Standings – Men

Eagles are drawn on points with the All Blacks, but New Zealand sits in the ordering seat by virtue of their brace of first place finishes at Dubai and yester-today at Sydney. US have been runners-up at the four global sevens events thus far this season, and with the next stop on the tour a home competition at Las Vegas, the Colorado State University Rams, Cherry Creek Rugby, and Denver Barbarians product, Ben Pinkelman, and company will seek to express the fast code in a most very excellent manner, with the chance to take both the Vegas 7s title as well as move into topspot at the 10-tournament table, midway through the season.
USA 7s men’s captain, Madison Hughes, who’s second on overall points-scored in four rounds will lead the talented group in Vegas, March 1-3.

World Rugby 7s Series – Women

USA trail frontrunner New Zealand by a dozen. Kiwis have won every leg thus far as the tour goes to Kitakyushu on the northern tip of the Japanese island of Kyushu. America is two points ahead of close chasers, Canada and Australia, and will look to put some distance between themselves and their pursuit as well as gain on the leaders when play resumes the third weekend in April, 21-23. USA is led by Vermont native, Ilona Maher, who’s grounded 10 trys in three rounds. Maher, a multi-sport student-athlete while at Quinnipiac University, also earned All American rugby honors while at that august Connecticut institution.
