Major League Rugby: Toronto Arrows Ascend

Toronto Arrows, who began yesterday in 6th place at the MLR Table, popped into 3rd and well into the playoffs frame, with bonus-point victory last night over Austin Elite in the True North, 24-13. Arrows halfback, Andy Ferguson, got the first try and its conversion before putting the plus-2 on a grounding by Uruguayan threequarter, Leandro Leivas. A pair of second stanza scores by front row Rob Brouwer and the bonus-point try by flyer Kainoa Lloyd made the Toronto number. For their measure, Austin picked up a conversion and a pair of sticksplitters by center, AndrĂ©s Vilaseca and a grounding by Valiseca's midfield partner, Simon Bienvenu.

The Arrows go again on Sunday v Utah and with the result in that fixture could see themselves in second should San Diego fail at NOLA Gold on Saturday. Toronto, whose outlook seemed a tad bleak a short fortnight ago, are now the hottest side in the league right now on four wins in succession; though they may lose their current placement after Saturday's matches, that spot or better may be had with joy on Sunday.
