Women's Premier League - Glendale Merlins: Fire Up the Magic!

2019 Women’s Premier League

The top women’s rugby competition in America kicks off this weekend, August 17-18 in its 11th season of play. The 10-club, two-conference league is divided geographically with the Great Plains being the effective delineator. On the right-hand side of the U.S. are: Atlanta Harlequins, Beantown RFC, Chicago North Shore, New York Rugby Club and Twin Cities Amazons; while on the left: Berkeley All Blues, Glendale Merlins, Life West Gladiatrix, Oregon Sports Union and San Diego Surfers fill out the league form.

Since 2012, Glendale Women’s Rugby, as Raptors and now Merlins, have been in every Women’s Premier League Championship Final save for one, winning back-to-back titles in ‘14/’15. And Merlins side of the bracket got more difficult with the addition of USAR National Division 1 ClubSide Champion (2018, 2019) Life West Gladiatrix, the XV against which Merlins open their season this Saturday, 3pm, at home on the turf pitch called the StoveTop for the incisive, hotstepping movement generated by its heat. And Gladiatrix are comfortable at altitude on the paddock in Glendale as Infinity Park has been the arena for Life West’s championship successes the past two campaigns. Gladiatrix are fit and formidable, and will provide a stern test for Merlins in their season opener.

Admission is free... come see!
